Responsive vs Reactive Behaviours

We have observed many times that we need to exhibit or control our emotions based on the circumstances. Psychologists observed two kinds of behaviors for exhibiting/controlling emotions.

Responsive People:

  • Creates a homogeneous environment around themselves. Means they know what are the consequences of their actions.
  • Committed to thier goals and lives a goal-oriented life style.
  • Good decision making capabilities and makes themselves responsible for decisions.
  • Creates a win-win situation
  • Controlled anger. Means they know when and to what extent anger can be exhibited.
  • Knows that they can not control every thing around them but focuses on controlling their reactions positively.

Reactive People:

  • Create a heterogeneous/chaotic environment around themselves and do not think of consequences of thier actions.
  • Not goal-oriented or do not have goals at all.
  • Poor decision making capabilities and makes others responsible for poor decisions.
  • Tries to have upper hand always irrespective of the situation.
  • Uncontrolled anger. Never thinks of consequences of exhibiting their anger.
  • Thinks they can/should control every thing around them.

Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present.

Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (121 AD - 180 AD), Meditations, 200 A.D.
